The striking fruit, Figs with its purple or fresh green skin and vibrant rosy flesh is a delightful addition to an autumnal table. Figs belong to the ficus tree which is the flowering plant of the Mulberry family. There are a lot of varieties of figs that vary widely in texture and color.

Fresh figs show a more delicate texture as compared to dry figs, but these have a lesser shelf life than dry figs. Since fresh figs are used as an occasional delight and dry figs are taken more conveniently for daily consumption. Both versions of figs provide several nutritional benefits in the form of soluble fibers, vitamins, and minerals for human health.

Benefits of fresh figs

Energy production

Fresh figs provide more vitamin B-complex as compared to dry figs. Vitamins B-complex is an essential element for energy production within the body.  It is also beneficial to maintain healthy nerves and red blood cells.

During the drying process, figs lose their vitamin B complex; therefore, fresh figs are preferred to use the figs for energy production.

Maintains the immune system

Vitamin A is a significant element for maintaining a strong and healthy immune system. Fresh figs are a big source of vitamin A against the dry version of figs. Each fresh fig serving contains about 341 units of vitamin A whereas; each dry fig serving contains just seven units of vitamin A.

Thus, fresh figs are recommended to be taken to build up and maintain a strong immune system. Vitamin A is also helpful in other aspects of health like tissue development and growth of red blood cells.

Benefits of dry figs

Prevent Degeneration of muscle

Muscular degeneration is the cause of vision loss in older people. Figs are very helpful to avoid this symptom of maturity.

Prevent the Hypertension

People normally consume sodium in a salt form, but high sodium and low potassium levels can lead to hypertension. Figs prove to be a perfect defense for the effects and appearance of hypertension because these contain low sodium and high potassium.

In this way, figs are termed to be a relaxing ingredient that can bring calmness in mood and settle the nerves.

Prevent the Coronary Heart Diseases

Dried figs provide phenol, Omega-6, and Omega-3 fatty acids. These reduce the chances of coronary diseases. The leaves of figs also have a noteworthy effect on the triglycerides level of an individual body.

These provide an inhibitory impact over triglyceride, which drops all units of triglycerides. Triglycerides are also a major contributor to many heart diseases that can easily be prevented through figs.

Control the Diabetes

ADA suggested that figs contain high fiber content that promotes functional control for diabetes. The leaves of figs minimize the concentration of insulin, which is required by diabetic patients who need to take insulin injections.

These contain potassium, which helps regulate the concentration of sugar that is absorbed after the meal within the body. A large amount of potassium ensures that the sugar falls and spikes are less frequent. Thus, figs are a big source for diabetic patients to live normal lives.
